The headdress gives it away, this is Herakles. son of Alcmene and Zeus. He is wearing the head of the Nemean lion. It was the first labour he accomplished, ridding the countryside of a fearful lion with impenetrable fur which had been terrorising the locals.
The statue is part of the Ottheinrich’s wing at the Heidelberg castle. All statues displayed have a verse to tell onlookers who they’re looking at.
Jove’s son Hercules I am called. Well-known through my glorious deeds.

I have a mini-series of Greek Gods and Godesses within Becky’s May Square Challenge so this almost suggested itself.
