No, this is not a counting mistake.
We all know the five senses:






In the English language we speak of a sixth sense when somebody has a power of perception seemingly independent of the five senses. But in the German language, we talk of the seventh sense when we mean that (and ignore the sixth, I think).
But what does this seventh sense look like?

Maybe that’s in the middle between 5th and 7th. In researching this (superfluously, on the net) I came across a list of 10 recognised senses.

The five classical ones, plus the perception of temperature, the perception of movement, the sense of balance, the awareness of being in space (what you mentioned) and the sixth/seventh sense which is kind of outside the regular senses.
