I liked the idea of topiary but had no photo on file.  But then I found this in a front yard in the neighbourhood.  It’s a … a twisted … it’s a twisted, trained, long something.  Because of the long form I had to kind of cheat.

    1. I think topiaries aren’t as fashionable as they used to be. Also, often they are boxwood and boxwood is being killed here (it’s a beetle, it came from China … oh no!!) I ripped out all my boxwood shrubs (they were still young) after fighting the bug for 2 years.

      1. oh no that’s not good.

        We don’t have a beetle here but we do have the box tree caterpillar, which is causing similar problems. It arrived in the UK about 12 years ago, but has only become a problem in some areas in the last 8. Fortunately not where my mum lives as she has a lot of box

      2. It seems to be the same creature (I assumed it was a beetle as I’ve only ever seen its evidence and the German name is “Zünsler” which is weird and I didn’t associate it with a moth). If German experience is anything to go by, it will in the end be everywhere. We know in Germany that it arrived first on a ship cruising up the Rhine and made landfall in Freiburg (almost Switzerland). And since then it works itself northward, about 10-15km per year was the rate, I think.
