Some kind of dragon

We were at the German Dragon Museum yesterday. This dragon like creature called Harry lives there amongst all the exhibits and when there are children the museum people take Harry out and he is fed a few choice crickets. Pogonas must be kindred to dragons, don’t you think?

    1. I’m sure you’ve heard of Siegfried and the Nibelungen and the Burgundians (thanks to Richard Wagner and his fat singing ladies). They lived in Worms (we believe) and when they felt like hunting a few wild boars and bears they went a day’s ride to the East, in the Odenwald. There, at a spring, Siegfried rested and Hagen killed him – merely wanting to protect his queen Brunhild from Kriemhild, who was a spoilt brat married to her Germanic more brawn than brain hero. She was not only spoilt but also kind of stupid since she confided in Hagen about the one place where Siegfried could be hurt. He had earlier killed a dragon called Fafnir and bathed in his blood but missed a spot on his shoulder.
There are at least ten places in the Odenwald which claim to be THE spring where the foul deed happened, and every village sports a Nibelungenstraße. Dragons, consquently, a very popular and one can find depictions of Siegfried slaying dragons all over in the area.

A few people started to collect dragons from all over the world and next to the ruin of a medieval castle they found a place to house the collections and it grew into the Deutsche Drachenmuseum. It’s a great place to visit with children, and interesting for adults, too, although as one of the attendants on Sunday said: “Art and kitsch are not far apart where this subject is concerned.”
