There are lots of grey herons around here in the fields, it’s not the first time either that I’ve seen one catching a small animal, mouse or small rat,
It’s a small river and there is a large number of herons. They seem to like it here and I seem to see more birds every year. I think they have adapted to hunting in the fields.
Last year we had a silver herons moving through on their migratory route and about three to five stayed, I could see them all winter.

Perfect timing. A great blue heron just landed on the shore in front of me. She’s got a nice fresh fish dinner in sight!

Makes me wonder if the river is low on fish stocks. Of course herons like cranes do eat small brids and rodents if the chances arise but its unusual.

Wow, you;re so lucky getting to watch them all the time like that. I see the occasional one fly over or at the river a mile away but thats it here.
