“Jeder grüne Baum ist trotz allem wertvoller als einem (sic) der aus Gold und Silber wäre.”
Martin Luther
“For all that every green tree is more precious than one that were made of gold and silver.”
Living on the slopes of the Odenwald, and looking across the Rhine Valley to the Pfälzer Wald (“Wald” meaning forest in German), woods are close to my heart.
The Odenwald consists of mixed forests but beech is predominant in our area. And it is glorious at this time of year, the leaves all new and fresh and bright green.

many granite boulders are found in the area

A wonderful forest 🙂 🙂

I love that quotation. I’ll remember it. Perfectly illustrated too!

I’ve found it by chance – it was credited to Martin Luther King jr. which I thought was odd. I normally doublecheck quotes so I found the original from Martin Luther (the German rebellious monk) with an error in grammar and all (it’s wrong in today’s German).

Definitely ML, rather than MLK! Of course the average British child meets ML at the Diet of Worms – cue irreverent laughter all round.

I needed a bit of thinking to decipher “Diet of Worms”. Worms is only a bike ride away from here so I should have clicked faster. But the “diet” threw me off – I didn’t know that for something we call “Reichstag” [the German parliament in Berlin meets at the “Reichstag”‘s building]. And yes, indeed 😂
