I’ve been thinking that often when I visit playgrounds with the grandchildren. Even the equipment for our children was boring in comparison. But then – they had proper trees!
Oh yes fabulous trees for climbing all around where I lived. Climbed a huge Bunya Pine and was almost stuck as I was a bit frightened to climb back down, probably about 10 years old. Our playgrounds had things that you never see now-a-days as they are too dangerous for the kids or so adults reckon
We had just moved to Harare and our garden sported an enormous avocado tree which was great for climbing. Only a few days there, when I heard our sons calling. There were high up in the tree, 3 and 5 years old, and I talked them down with my calmest voice (while every now and again turning towards the kitchen and quieltly hyperventilating for a few breaths).
