I had to guess and then look it up to confirm that what I would call a pacifier is also called a dummy in some places. We’re currently watching rugby where a dummy is where you act like you’re going to pass the ball but instead you keep it. Isn’t language interesting?
It is. In South Africa a dummy is indeed what you call a pacifier. And to make matters even more interesting, In German those test dummies who are used in controlled car crashes are called “Dummys”, the English word with a wrong plural.
And I feel lost too!
