Water My Blood

How can you not think of Hemingway?

The Old Man and the Sea
Earth my body.
Air my breath.
Fire my will.
Water my blood.

Small droplets

collecting in puddles and bowls

flowing into streams

and rivers

into larger rivers

and finally finding their way into the sea

reaching from shore to shore.

    1. I read The Old Man and the Sea when I was 14. I found it mindnumbingly boring – but I had this idea to read “world literature”. Later I came to appreciate “For whom the bell tolls”.
