In the old part of Heppenheim there are more than 70 lanterns decorated with cut-outs illustrating tales and legends of the region. The artworks were created by Albert Völkl.
The latern in the photo features a story about a recluse who likely frightened the people living in the area.
The “Mordche” (a name alluring to ‘small murderer’) is said to have lived in a particularly dense part of the Bombach forest. The story goes that he was a small man who had killed his brother during a quarrel and after avoiding justice for a long time finally found a hiding place in the Bombach valley.

What a charming idea.
