Cogs are medieval ships mostly associated with the Hanseatic League in north-western Europe. Amber is found predominantly in the areas surrounding the western Baltic Sea. In Stralsund and Greifswald there are many jewellery shops exclusively dedicated to amber. This brooch shows off the two extremes on the amber colour scale.

amber jewellery can often look terribly old-fashioned or clunky. it’s not often set in silver. and i liked the simplified boat / cog
