This is the Domdechaney or the Domherrenhof (deanery) in Hochheim am Main. It’s part of a charming old town in the middle of the wine growing district of the Rheingau. It has a historic centre that’s worth visiting. Queen Victoria did in 1845, she called the wine she drank here “hock” and that became a synonym for Rhine wine in the UK ever since.

Interesting building and windows Elke. Can you go inside?

I guess so. It has church offices inside, if I’m not mistaken.

Charming old houses, and wonderful dormer (?) windows. Thank you for the English lesson, I never knew of “hock” before.

I knew the word “hock” for Rhine wine but I didn’t know about the connection to Hochheim and Queen Victoria.
