“Über Stock und Stein” (literally “across stick and stone”) is how you say “cross country” in German.
Some people take idiomatic sayings more seriously than others.
Climbing over sticks and stones they hope that they may not break their bones.

I normally don’t collect ticks. That time I came home with more than 20 on my legs, still crawling luckily and I drowned them in a bath.

We normally conduct mutual tick checks after we run / walk in the country. Unfortunately, that’s necessary.
