It was a bit late when I was out for a walk yesterday. This was the view.
The Upper Rhine Valley is about 30 kilometres wide, from the Odenwald to the Palatinate Forest. On clear days you can see the hills from our side to the other. In between are the cities of Mannheim and Ludwigshafen, residential and industrial areas.

Is Odenwald an old viking settlement? Sounds rather Norse to me

The Odenwald is a Mittelgebirge, i.e. a mountain range with hills rather than mountains (the highest elevation is about 625m). But it is not a small area (in German terms, that is). and it has parts in three different German states. There are different interpretations of where the name stems from. The association with Odin (the Germanic god) is amongst them but usually discounted because around here the Germanic tribes worshipped Odin in the form of Wotan. The jury is still out.

Thank you. It was like that – I tried to enhance the colours and returned to the original.
