“Coming together is the beginning. Keeping together is progress. Working together is success.”
Henry Ford
This statue by Jean Luc Bambara symbolises the partnership between the Garango region in Burkina Faso and Ladenburg near Heidelberg. For the last 40 years they have worked together in numerous projects, profiting both partners.

I would never have guessed what this statue was without your excellent explanation. I would love to read the sculptor’s mind as he worked on this piece. The idea behind it is praiseworthy, and I am delighted that they have been so successful, but the sculpture has a jagged hole right through the middle! I should keep my fingers quiet. I put my lack of culture on display for the world to see. 🙂

I’ve never seen that jagged hole, at least not as a jagged hole but now that you mention it… I always only saw them as two figures and although embracing still distinct. But the zigzag? Is one of them abbrasive – but which one? I’ve just read that the place surrounding the sculpture will be redisgned with plants. Well, I suppose anything is better than just grass as it is now.

I saw what looked like a hole cut with pinking shears. Maybe I should wear my glasses!

Tell you what: I’ll go back next summer (when the plants have been established and get a few shots from different angles.

Sounds like a plan. It’s still a lovely statue with a heartfelt meaning! I wasn’t being critical of it, though, just a weird mind making observations. Happy holidays, dear Elke. Xxx
