  1. I always wonder about the name Handschusheim 😀. Someone told me that it was because at some point of time, the knight/whoever ruled that place, wore an iron glove (probably because his hand was cut?). Do you know what’s the story?

    1. It would be a nice story, wouldn’t it? But very probably not true. A man called Ansco (possibly related to Ansgar or Hansco) settled there after the Roman’s left and this was bastardized over the years to Handschuh. The people must have liked it and the crest has a white or silver glove on blue. My own hometown (15km to the north) has a similar story: A Frankonian chieftain called “Wino” (nothing at all to do with wine) settled in the area. The name of his settlement, later village, changed often to Winnenham, Windenheim etc. and ended up in Weinheim. Because the people also grew wine in the area, the crest now incorporates a wine ladder (it loos like a bowlegged letter H).
