Not Just One Troublemaker

Education is the most powerful weapon which you can use to change the world.

How about this photo to tie in with Marsha’s post about Martin Luther King?

Our sons took part in their school’s millenium parade. They could dress up as any person from history they admired. Meet Martin Luther King jr. and Nelson Mandela.

I never lose. I either win or learn.

      1. Yes, I do. Three and a half (the half is the half-sister of our first grandson; modern families … she calls us Oma and Opa, too).

    1. Past tense, though. 😉 The older one picked Martin Luther King jr. because he learned about him in the American school he was attending. And he looked for a black person. The younger one picked Madiba because they both heard about him at home from when they were very little. I used to work for an anti-apartheid organisation in South Africa and although I never met the man personally I served coffee to many people who did work with him. Before and after he was freed. In 1989 our office shared rooms with his then wife, not my best time there.

      1. I’m sorry it wasn’t a good time for you. Fans are not always very nice. Even well-loved public figures are not always the most personable people in the world, no matter what their profession. They have something that makes them memorable, though, and they have a cause. Us lesser folks can have attitudes and be demanding pests. 🙂

      2. Oh, overall it was a grand time. It was just that Winnie – well, she used to be an awful person at that time (many people say the hardships she suffered after Mandela’s arrest made her so), to me was just rude and condescending (probably with good reason if not grace) but overall I think in her latter years she was a criminal. I know for a fact that she was a lier (in some minor ways but still). It was only a couple of months – her own office had been bombed out and my bosses offered her a working space until she found new premises.

      1. Ooops, comment went with the wrong post. What I meant: today there is (lots) more snow than yesterday and I am not following Henry to go outside. (Which is actually not true I went for a long walk this afternoon. Came back without frostbite and all bones unbroken.)
