No Home Owners Association Yet

In a part of the woods around here somebody created a Wichtelweg, a path next to which Wichtel, imps or gnomes live. I don’t know if it ever had any official blessings but the word spread amongst parents of small children who liked to go for a walk there and wonder at the figures.

And then something funny started to happen. More little houses and figures started to appear. Some old toys, figurines and even a fighter plane, animals looking as if they were on their way to the ark. Nobody seems to mind or organise it and the Wichtelweg keeps growing.

  1. Wow, what a refreshing read! It’s so great to hear about a community without a Home Owners Association. It must be liberating to have the freedom to make your own choices without any unnecessary restrictions. Kudos to you all for creating such an inclusive and welcoming environment!
I will follow and give a like! My Blog about DIY, check it out here dental-rotors.com

    1. The title was tongue-in-cheek – I meant the imps had no HOA. There are no HOAs in Germany as such. There are certain regulations, i.e. zoning regulations and heights of buildings (since we build houses closer together it makes sense when chimney are all at the same height, for example). However, occasionally these rules and regulations are perceived to be stupid, too.

    2. PS: I checked out your site. I’m not a DIY person at all (two left hands, I can’t put in a screw straight). But I found sirona on your site! When we were living in Zimbabwe my husband, who is an x-ray/CT/MRI engineer had to service dental suites as well. At the time, Sirona still belonged to Siemens. There was only one dentist in the country who used sirona (or could afford it) and my husband got a crash course in those machines (as there wouldn’t be enough work for one dental technician). The dentist who had his surgery 2 hours outside of the capital Harare was one of the dentists who originally helped to develop the cerec technology. 😀 Talk about blast from the past.

  2. Fabulous Elke, I love little things like this that grow with love. I hope some officious person doesn’t come along and want to declare it garbage and remove it.
A bit of your own touch would be great 🙂
