Houses were built closer together, streets were narrower. Today’s inhabitants do the best they can.
But sometimes pedestrians and cars compete for right of way.

When in Rome we were dining inside and the people outside on the road side of the table had to get up and tuck their chair under the table when a vehicle came along. I ha d good view and was most amused at those who insisted on sitting outside
