The Importance of Naming Things

Two different species, rudbeckia and echinacea, are both commonly called coneflowers. I wouldn’t know the difference if it weren’t for those little signs in our botanical garden. The echinacea is called “deceptive coneflower”, actually this particular variety is called “täuschender Scheinsonnenhut” in German – carrying two words synonymous with “deception” in its name.

  1. “täuschender Scheinsonnenhut” sounds like someone sneezing 😁 just have to change the syllable stress from German to idiot German by someone having a shot to sound out in German but laughing to even keep trying 😂
