Thinking Woman with Bird

In front of the local hospital is this intriguing sculpture. The artist is Jürgen Goertz. I find sculptures in public places difficult to photograph because of the background intruding. It’s difficult to work with depth of field if you want to get the whole sculpture in the frame. And occasionally the background can be useful to show the size of the piece.

One way to work around is manually removing all or part of the background. There are programmes who do this for you but it’s not suitable for every photo.

Ragtag Daily Prompt: Sculpture

PS: If somebody has an idea how to scale down “image compare” in portrait mode, I’d be grateful. Making the photo smaller, i.e. less pixels, doesn’t do the trick.

    1. Yes, in front of the GNR clinic, just off the Autobahnzubringer. Interestingly enough, I have just visited Wiesloch (peppered with sculptures! they have a very active art scene, it seems) and a prominent sculpture there (Friedensengel at the Brunnengalerie) is from the same artist. — Let me know when you’re coming!

  1. Nice! I only go to Wiesloch when really necessary otherwise I somehow don’t feel comfortable being there. It’s interesting how some places vibe with one and some don’t 🙂. But yes, they do have many sculptures in Wiesloch.
