A common name for a traditional inn, “The Golden Hart” (or “stag”) – this one has, for the moment, closed down.

Another well liked traditional name is “The Lion” or “The Golden Lion”. Unlike in the UK were the most popular name for inns and pubs is “The Red Lion”.

Another common name: “The Crown”.

Charming, Elke 🙂! Oh yes, I am familiar with the “Goldenen Hirsch”s and “Goldenen Rose”s 😀..I wonder if they are the most popular names only in Baden Wurrtemberg or all over Germany 🤔..

I’ve googled a bit and no guarantees for the results. I could only find name lists for the whole of Germany. In descending order: Ratskeller, Linde, Krone, Post, Krug … The fact that there is no Hirsch in the best of 10 suggests that this is more regional. But in a list of hotel names, Hirsch comes in at no. 9, just before Lion. In descending order again: Post, Krone, Linde, Adler, Deutsches Haus. “Post” for hotels makes a lot of sense since people travelled by stage coach, i.e. postal service and overnighted in houses with postal stables.
