It’s a hotel in Thonon-les-Bains at Lake Geneva. One tower is the cheaper version (or budget hotel), the opposite one is the more expensive one (or premium hotel). Of course, when you turn up at eleven at night [because of a) traffic and b) car troubles] and you cannot find anyone at the originally booked b&b you end up paying twice AND it is not in the budget hotel!
We made it home in the car despite of the clutch being on the frizz. It just took 2 days for 1000 km. We had planned for 2 days anyway but the sightseeing at Lake Geneva was non-existent.
What an amazing place. How many windows to one apartment?

That was sad. I’ve been around part of Lake Geneva on the train

I spent a couple of months there as an exchange student in the late 1970s. That’s why I wanted to stop there in the first place.

Ah, you read it. We made it home, which is the main thing.

It’s a hotel. The window offer a great view: to the hotel opposite (where we were staying). See my answer to Brian for more details.

I am always intrigued as to why they go for door shapes – do you think they originally planned juliet balconies?

So did I. I thought they were doors at first 🙄

I don’t think so. The hotel tower faces the other hotel tower. (I explained it to Brian and Margaret in my answers).
