I went for a drive / walk on Saturday. I’ll start with the most boring of the pictures.

This cycle path is next to the Bergstraße, the ancient trade route already named by the Romans, strata montana, mountain road. It leads from South to North just below the hills of the Odenwald. And this stretch is leading North, between Laudenbach and Heppenheim.

Taken at more or less the same spot as the photo above this is the view to the East. Heppenheim is the centre of the wine growing area known as Hessische Bergstraße. The Romans were the first to cultivate wine on the slopes facing west. Since I had left a bit late it was already getting darker and the photos were kind of dull. So I started to play around with my camera.

That’s a look on the castle Windeck.

I’ve shown this ruin before but usually from a different vantage point, facing East, rather than North as in this photo. Below is the more usual look, the Windeck as seen from the old part of town.

And finally the shot that was the easiest to callibrate – the one due West towards the setting sun, overlooking the Upper Rhine Valley.

Once again, I tried out creative modes on my camera and ended up with a) The aliens are landing and b) Thus spoke The Metatron.

A very informative tour, thank you. My favourites are the two edits with the slider pushed all the way to the left
