enjoyed the mono photos of this bike and the first photo was my fav (and side note -= I recently saw an episode of “Mysteries at the museum” and it featured an early bike and explained how the idea might have come from an inventor who was inspired by ice skates….. and your post reminds me of that episode)
I come from “bicycle” country, so to speak. The first “dandy horse” was invented by Karl Drais, incidentally in the same area (around here) where Carl Benz invented the first car.
oh that might have been the guy in the episode – I looked but it only showed Joseph Merlin – but after seeing your comment… I think they also noted this “Drais invented the dandy horse as a potential replacement for horses during a period of scarcity following the eruption of Mount Tambora and the Year Without a Summer in 1816”
