This is a Lederhose, made of leather and with the characteristic codpiece and decorative stitching. If it’s a proper Lederhose it will outlast the wearer. In 1911 Börries von Münchhausen, a descendent of Baron von Münchhausen on whom the literary figure of the lying, adventurous Baron was based, wrote a satirical poem about such a Lederhose and I’m glad to report that today that is the only one of his writings that has survived in the general public. In his others writings he revealed himself to be a rassist, a anti-semit, and a national socialist.
There is an English translation of the poem, if you are interested in the whole poem, have a look here.
DIE LEDERHOSENSAGA
While hunting one day, Grandpa had great luck.
He shot a big old dark brown buck.
The deerskin pelt had such resiliency,
He built a family legacy.
After thinking about it a great long time,
Grandpa made lederhosen strong and fine.
Generations come, generations go,
Buckskin breeches remain forever so.
[…]
Fathers die, sons remember them in song,
Buckskin breeches are forever strong!
However strong and lasting a Lederhose is – it will not protect the wearer from the hazards of life. The wearer below had indulged to much at the local fest. Nice Hose, though.

That poem is hilarious. A great mind! Not.
