
That’s what pines may look like in winter here in Germany.
However, the second set of pines were photographed in early summer. They show the stress that German forests are under – these particular trees are more than 50 years old and have thrived for the majority of this time. But because of the changing climate they do no feel happy and healthy anymore – it’s hotter and drier than what they are used to. Forestry has to adapt and plant different species more suited to the changing conditions, and thus changing the looks of German woods if we don’t want them to disappear at all.
