“Dr. House” with Hugh Laurie. The character walks with a cane and has a pronounced limp. Hugh Laurie has joked in interviews and on talkshows that he is like Pavlov’s dog, even though the series has ended years ago he immediately starts limping when somebody calls “action”.
Hugh Laurie is very good (not that I’m an expert but Americans have remarked that his accent is remarkably good, not a hint of Brit left). Like with many medical dramas there is a balance between the medical cases, usually resolved in one episode, and the longer story archs involving the main characters. House is a brilliant diagnostician but also a misanthropist that avoids dealing with patients like the plague (unless they actually have the plague – that’s a quote from the show), although he is often forced to do that. The main medical crisis is usally about a very weird, very rare ailment, the patient often almost dies before they find out what the underlying cause is. The medical side is not in any way realistic. His short encounters with patients in the walk-in clinic are usually for comic relief but also comment on the other issues of the episode (often very sarcastic, very black humour). House is also a drug addict (addicted to painkillers which become more instrumentental to the story in later seasons). It’s escapism in a not stupid way.
No idea what you are watching! Should I have?

Watched that back in the day. House was a quirky character as you describe. Rude but appealing at the same time.
