is another one’s poison.

There is this story that American forces dropped parcels with food and necessities after wwII to the starving German population. The parcels had “gift” written on them. And the Germans felt mocked: they’re dropping food and they have the audacity to label it “poison”. In German, “gift” means poison.
PS 1: Learn languages, child!
PS 2: It makes you wonder about the etymology of the word “gift” (I checked: originally, it meant “given” in German as well).

That’s wonderful Elke. A good history and language lesson.
