Both these towers are old. The “Blue Hat” on the left is about 750 years old and was part of the town’s fortifications. The one on the right is the main tower of the castle ruin close by, reputedly 900 years old. Whenever I get close to one of them I look up and I wonder what a person who lived hundreds of years ago, maybe lived in one of the villages a bit further away, surrounded by mainly or possibly exclusively one storey buildings, would have thought coming up on these structures for the first time.
