A rejected angel

Rejects, I have a few, but then again, more than enough to mention …

When Egido asks for at first glance rejected photos I immediately thought of sculptures.

I love to photograph sculptures in public spaces. But they usually pose challenges exactly because they are not isolated but surrounded by buildings, people, trees and bushes, sometimes cars, other structures – in short: life.

Sometimes it’s not necessary or even good to isolate them because they were created with their surroundings in mind but usually this is not the case.

So for Egido’s challenge I looked for a photo of a sculpture which presented exactly these challenges. Here is the sculpture of a headless angel from Bad Soden am Taunus – unfortunately I couldn’t find any more information about this piece of art. Surrounded by trees, a pavillon in the background, even a traffic sign.

I tried various methods to rescue this reject.

My personal favourite is the blurred background with Lunapic, however I had to touch up the picture manually.

Overally, I had fun. Almost as much fun as we had with the angel itself.

  1. Elke, what a great edit you got there. The final choice with Lunapic is my favorite. You got the angel to appear floating. Excellent! That statue begs to be played with. I’m glad you had fun with it, too.

  2. Elke, it is obvious that you had fun with the sculpture itself as well as editing. My fave is the manual blurring of the background. But that’s just me… I want simple stuff.

  3. I can see how difficult this photo would be to work with, kudos for your editing, Elke and I agree with you on the best one. Although, I have to say, the last two are very good too 😀
