We were driving from Germany to Perpignan, we overnighted in Bourg-en-Bresse. This fellow waved us away and towards the South.
Wind turbines on the way.

Then we passed the Porta dels Països Catalans, the gate to the Catalan region.

And soon afterwards, our first glimpse of the Mediterannean.

A week later we had to travel back north. This time via the Alps and Switzerland.

Geneva first, via Aix les bains. Not turning towards Italy.

Even though the search engine wants me to believe that this is a mountain near the lake Garda, I know for a fact that we stayed in France. This is in the Savoy region, the mountain is called Mont Tournier. Our travel back was severely lengthened not by excessive traffic (although there was enough) but because our car refused to go faster than about 80 km per hour.

Another tunnel and soon it was Lake Geneva and I wanted to get OUT OF THE CAR. The next day it was only 500km more to go which took us just under 10 hours.

A long ride but through some beautiful country. I love road trips, but I’m sorry about the car.

I probably would have enjoyed it more without our grandson in the car (not that he was much of a bother but I suffered with him and for him).

The first half of your post showcases a route we know well. Thanks for the souvenirs!

But it’s an awful route when the French holidays have begun.

We’re lucky enough never to have to take holidays during school holidays.

It’s the curse of being a teacher. Even a teacher of adults (because my students have children who have school holidays).

Yes, Malcolm used to teach too. But then the children were also at school. So it was all inevitable.

Those are some beautiful photos! I don’t know how well I’d do on a multi-day car trip. After four hours or so I tend to get cranky…

We were all cranky. But we were happy that the car made it home at all.

A fabulous journey Elke. Great scenes. Pity about the car but your endurance paid off

I’m still enduring. We wanted to buy a new (used) one right away. That was 2 years ago …

As long as it can get you around for short trips. I guess you drive in the slow lane on the autobahn or are you banned?

Now, we spend a couple of thousand Euros to have it fixed. But my husband was then worried about the next bigger repair looming. It has been looming ever since.

One of those decisions. To sell which is some return over sell for scrap with is almost nothing
