When seeing the word “pewter” I could only think of rainpipes. What else would the granddaugher of a tinsmith think? My grandfather worked with pewter (and tin, admittedly) all his life and I remember going into his workshop which looked ancient but he still tinkered in it when he was in his 80s.
Then the castle above was built during the 1920s the building owners, an association of student leagues, used local tradesman and my grandfather was commissioned to do some or possibly all of the rainpipes. Now I know that tin drainpipes last a very long time but I don’t know if they have lasted a hundred years but I like to think so.

I had no idea pewter was used for rain pipes. The only pewter I really know about is the rather handsome but classically simple pewter plate which has always been in our family.
