Past and present

The house itself was built in the middle of the 16th century and this alone makes it a part of history.  But it is also the custodian of our towns traditions as it is today the home of the local historical society, and once a year it is the centre of our town festival.

All you need is a socket

“Bei uns kommt der Strom aus der Steckdose” = Our electricity comes from the socket.  This was familiar saying in the 80s in Germany. I don’t know the origin but nowadays it is used disparagingly to characterise an attitude of people who want (and waste) electricity  mindless of how it is produced.  This transformer substation reminded me of this phrase although I’m sure the electricity company meant to illustrate that they are the ones supplying electricity to all households.  The houses are typical for the region, the Odenwald in Germany.

Past and present

Paula’s prompt (traces of the past) and her use of selective colour started me thinking. We live in the colourful now and the past is often perceived only as little more than shadows, captured in stones, reflected in photos.  But the past can also be much more colourful and have a remarkable presence which lets our mundane life seem pale in comparison, depending on where our focus lies.

Which version comes closer to your vision?
