Mixed Messages
This building in Forchheim was originally built in the 19th century and has always served as a restaurant. It was originally called “Blaue Glocke”, or Blue Bell, and the bell should call for patrons and invite them in. The doors, however, seem forbidding and exclude customers. While researching what kind of a building this is I found that the last restaurant enterprises weren’t very successful – makes one think, doesn’t it?
The right quote at the right time
I saw this poster at the Royal Shakespeare Company on the very day our second granddaughter was born. It’s a quote from A Midsummer Night’s Dream.
Withywind
or old man’s beard or virgin’s bower or evergreen clematis or traveller’s joy – either way and definitely MY joy! And I can’t help thinking of the river in the Old Forest in Lord of the Rings, the Withywindle.

South of Frankfurt 12 km of autobahn were a testing track for an e-highway, a modern version of trolley trucks intended for hybrid trucks. Apparently the power lines can be called catenary.
Ghost riders
The German sign (seen in Bamberg) is ambigious. It can mean “ghost riders, aka cyclists who drive the wrong way on a street, put others at risk”. It can also mean “let’s endanger some ghosts riders”.

His documents state his profession as “comic wrestler”. What it means is that he performs in pink tights and a tutu between the professional wrestling bouts.
