





I’ve just come back from the Middle Rhine wine region (between Bingen and Koblenz), part of which is a UNESCO heritage site. It is quite breathtaking to see the steep slope vineyards on either side. Getting up the steps between the different vineyards must be even more breathtaking, literally.
Germans love to organise themselves in clubs, called “Verein”. This particular one is dedicated to uphold the traditions of Weinheim. The somewhat long and cumbersome name stems from the fact that it is an amalgamation of two clubs, none of which wanted to give up their traditional name.

Normally the sight of a rescue helicopter strikes fear or at least apprehension in the hearts of onlookers, even more so if one is vacationing at a lake. But in this case I was free to take photos with a clear conscience as the emergency physicians from the German automobile club came to meet the youngsters of the Life Saving Association who were on a training camp in the area.
