What Would We Be without Our Verein?

Germans love to organise themselves in clubs, called “Verein”. This particular one is dedicated to uphold the traditions of Weinheim. The somewhat long and cumbersome name stems from the fact that it is an amalgamation of two clubs, none of which wanted to give up their traditional name.

Excitement in the Air

Normally the sight of a rescue helicopter strikes fear or at least apprehension in the hearts of onlookers, even more so if one is vacationing at a lake. But in this case I was free to take photos with a clear conscience as the emergency physicians from the German automobile club came to meet the youngsters of the Life Saving Association who were on a training camp in the area.

We spent a week at the Bostal Lake in the Saarland, the southwestern tip of Germany.

Small 3: Three shoots stretching towards the sun.

Wet 3: Three poles stuck in the Bostal Lake.

Colourful 3: Three street caps.

Bold 3: Three wasps in our jam.

Conscientious 3: Three storks patrolling the pasture.
