A Snowman Before Meltdown

—————- This is the unedited photo of a snowman with rather unusual facial features.

This is a filter from photoscape called AF3. ——- The same shot with heavy doses of back light.

—— Another photoscape filter, this time CP2. ——– And finally, an artistic filter called edges.

———– Photoshopped images for the One to Three Processing Challenge in February.

The Odd Armadillo

That was the first picture I saw of this … this … whatsit. What is it? A vomiting lizzard? Or did I read the fountain in the wrong direction and this was a drinking green pig with a large tail? What about the wings? A dragon whelp? I don’t know that I was thinking except that – “This is really odd!!”

As we went more often to Frankfurt we kept seeing more pictures of the creature.

And not just pictures, sculptures as well.

And after a while we started to understand. This was the Frankfurt Grüngürteltier or literally, the Green Belt Creature. The name is pun – green belt is literally Grüngürtel but a Gürteltier is the name of an armadillo in German. It is used as a signpost for the 68km long walking path encircling the city.

When Africa Comes to Visit

A sunset to complement Becky’s sunrise with which she started off Febodduary, or rather: a month of odd squares in February. Not a pink and orange blaze of the sun going down over the Rhine Valley but a a lowered sun muted and dark through dust blown all the way from North Africa. A Sahara sandstorm in Germany which although it seems to spell doom is actually the reason why our area has such fertile soil.

The Windows of My School

These are the windows of the classroom in which I teach. It’s actually quite a big room, the window side is at least 6 metres but because of the foreshortening in the picture it looks cramped. Outside the window it is green, a slope of grass, but not as green as at the other side of the building.
