Another six week or so
This melody, as well as the accompanying text, is known by most German children. It’s sung on the day of St Nicolas when children are waiting for dark to fall and St Nicolas coming by and putting little presents in the prepared boots.
Let us all be cheery and bright and look forward to Nicolas' night. Merrily, merrily, ding ding dong! It's Nicolas' evening before too long.
It’s written on the picturesque house façade of this house in Hornbach:
We Had a Farm in Africa
NOT.
But we lived in Africa. And for the rest of the month I thought I share squares from this past.
We used to go hiking with an outfit called “Trailblazers” and we travelled many thousands of kilometer in this comfortable looking bus, a vehicle bought from the South African prison services (I guess it was cheap).

A Spire with a Twist
Legend has it that the devil himself twisted the spire of St Clemens in Mayen. I’m not sure if that’s true but it’s a much more compelling story than that it was simply caused by a mistake of the carpenters.
Since the devil’s ire came from being fooled into helping to build the church – he’d been told that the people of Mayen were building an inn with a ballroom rather than a church – here are a few twisted vines.
