Slipping and sliding

In Germany, we wish people a good slide into the New Year: Einen guten Rutsch!

What not all that many people know is that this wish has little to do with a smooth glide or even a giddy one considering current weather conditions and ice on the road but that it comes from the name of the Jewish new year – Rosh Hashanah.

In any language and culture: I hope that the coming year will be kind to all of us!
