Meet Lucky Luke:

Lucky Luke – the world’s best known Western comic book hero – was born in 1946, the brainchild of Morris, the Belgian Comic creator. In his youth he was never seen without a cigarette in the corner of his mouth. Until 1955 Morris both wrote and drew the stories, then René Goscinny of Asterix fame took over the writing. After Goscinny’s death in 1977, various writers were responsible for the text and the stories (Morris drew the pictures until his own death in 2001).
And then, Lucky Luke stopped smoking. In 1983 the WHO bestowed a special award on the author for breaking the lonely cowboy’s longtime habit. Today he is usually depicted with a blade of grass in his mouth – but many still remember the cigarette as this image on a ride of a children’s fair (sic!) shows.
