Timorous Timothy

“Timorous” is one of the words I can never type without typing “Timothy” first, then backtrack and type the proper word. “Time” is another one of those and comes up a lot more often. My fingers’ motor memory overrides my brain everytime, i.e. my fingers type faster than my brain can give orders to them. The reason for this is that my fingers have typed “Timo” or “Timothy” more often than “time” and that I am emotionally attached to “Timo”. Do I need to spell it out (pun intended)? My son is called Timothy, or Timo for short.

Now he was never a really timid or timorous boy so it took some digging to find a photo of him looking timorously. BTW: He will be 32 this month.

The Ragtag Daily Prompt: Timorous

Archived Trios

I’ve been sick for almost two weeks. Too sick to go to school but well enough to crawl out of bed and plonk myself in front of the computer. I’ve used the time to sort archived photos. And came upon a few older trios.

Believe it or not – this was in March 2003. Snow like this is not a common occurrence in the Odenwald, let alone in springtime.

An old graffiti / mural. Even though old and dirty it still conveys a joyful mood.

And three birds on a wall – I’m sure there are many variations of this motive.

A Light on the Mountain

When I looked at older Weekly Prompts I was delighted to see the name of Georg Christoph Lichtenberg. He is definitely the master of aphorisms and I love paging through his collected “thought snippets” as he liked to call them.

It’s an added bonus that Lichtenberg comes from our area. He was born in Ober-Ramstadt in 1742, in the Odenwald near Darmstadt. The school our sons attended for a few years was named after him.

He had this to say about birds (or was it humans?):

“Die buntesten Vögel singen am schlechtesten. Das gilt auch bei den Menschen.”

I couldn’t find a translation into English, so here is my attempt:

“The most colourful birds are the worst singers. That also holds true for humans.”
