Tethered together

“Marriage is like a cage; one sees the birds outside desperate to get in, and those inside equally desperate to get out.”

Karneval 2018

A sad clown? Or just a tired clown after clowning all day in the streets during carnival times?

A sad clown? Or a clown who makes people sad? (and angry)

And he whispered sweet nothings in her ear

When he approached, Gertie tried to ignore Samson as he had the reputation of being a rogue. But he was friendly and gentle, almost timid. Then he started to talk, paid her compliments and best of all, he made her laugh: “That’s no bull at all, no bull at all…”

Coal for heating

I know it’s not quite charcoal but the mind sometimes goes where it will.

When coal and oil was still delivered to households:

Well, it still is depending on your heating system. But when I was little we got coal. The truck would drive up and dump a huge pile of coal in front of the house and then one had to shovel it in the coal cellar through these kinds of flap windows:

I’m a fan of pigs

Whether it’s the real pig,

the art imitates life pig,

or the anything goes pig (sorry, no picture of “Pigs in Space”).

I’ve never understood why butchers love to feature happy little pigs looking forward to end their lives as sausages on their signs.

But they are all Very Important Pigs, it seems.

For I’m a fan of … #77. More fanatical posts are linked here.

Traditional collage

The method may be more traditional, similar to collages done by school children who glue cut-outs from magazines on a large piece of paper, the message unfortunately is very modern. These are all painted pebbles from a pebble snake which was started during the lock down. It is on a walkway where there are always lots of people, particularly on weekends, but during the lock down it was particularly busy – without being crowded. Distancing was always possible. And I felt I had to add a protective umbrella as my own message.

Wet – pros and cons

Wet grass. It’s easy to forget how important water is.

Like when driving home in pouring rain and just looking forward to getting out of the wet clothes and snuggling down in a warm, dry place.

But sometimes we crave water. This was on the hottest day of that year, after having spent four or five hours in a school PE hall, on the way back to their accommodation. these guys saw a man watering his garden and begged for a cool down. They enjoyed getting wet so much!
