“I recognise the lion by his paw.”

lion

Supposedly a quote by Swiss mathematician Jakob I. Bernoulli*. In this case, though, it should have been “her paw”.

*I couldn’t find a verification in German, his native tongue. He was born and raised in Basel, Switzerland.

One leaf at a time

This is the “tobacco fountain” in Lorsch, Germany.  Tobacco was cultivated in the area since the late 17th century; in 1949 2000 people worked in the tobacco industry (out of a population of 6000) but after the second world war it declined rapidly and the last factory closed in 1993.  The fountain shows a worker threading tobacco leaves so they could be hung up to dry.  Contrasting her busy work are a child and cat, both busy playing with marbles, while the modern day tourists in the background are busy relaxing.

This is for One Word Sunday, the word being – surprise! – busy.  More contributions can be found here.

The experiment is called “school” or even “life” – these are primary school kids with a welcoming song for the new kids on their first day of school ever.

This post is for The Daily Post Photo Challenge with the topic experimental. More entries can be found here.

What purple dreams may come

15 a

I found this fun guy in a pedestrian underpass in Lüneburg, Germany.  He was the only worthwhile creature on an ugly, smeared wall full of tags and badly written slogans.

15 b

A bit later I met him again, this time on a distribution box.  I’m sure if I had had more time to spend I would have seen him even more often.

15 c

From the same town a simple quote – “Let your dreams outlast the night.”  As long as they are not nightmares …

This is for Monday Murals.

What a dummy!

m dummySchnullerbaum

That’s the dummy tree in the Luisenpark in Mannheim, Germany. No, it doesn’t grow dummies but children who are ready to give up their comforting friend can hang it in its branches.
