Strange little disgruntled bear on the back of a “Trabi” (the iconic car of the German Democratic Republic).
Here is the car in its full splendour:

This is the statue of Pan in the castle gardens of Schwetzingen, Germany. He can be found on top of a grotto not far away from a statue of Apollo with his lyre – so much more elegant (and a lot less fun, I imagine). The title is a quote from the English Wikipedia entry on Pan.

The topic of today’s One Word Photo Challenge is “fox”. Since there is someone whose nickname is Fox AND it happens to be his birthday today – there really was only one way to go.

To me, heritage is connected with language, therefore I chose to display photos from our local theatre production. All the photos were taken during rehearsal (except the bottom left one) since I was in the cast. Each year a different play of of the same author is performed. He wrote in the early parts of the 20th century but the stories take place in the 19th. He wrote in the local vernacular and the historical society puts on the plays as part of their effort to preserve the traditions and the dialect of the town. The backdrop – depicting typical half timbered houses from the area – dates back to the 1950s and has been used in every production since.

There are glimpses of Johann Wolfgang von Goethe all over Frankfurt, which is to be expected since it is his hometown. This huge quote on the side of a building in the Ostend is from his early novel – hence the signatur “the young G.” – alluding to the bible verse “Where, o death, is thy sting?” And he signed a letter to his lover in English, a few years later.
