Gaudy Plumage Is a Birthright

I didn’t think I would quote the same lyrics of HAIR twice in a week but here we are.

I would just like to say
That it is my conviction
That longer hair and other flamboyant affectations
Of appearance are nothing more
Than the male's emergence
From his drab camouflage
Into the gaudy plumage
Which is the birthright of his sex.

Surgeons 250 Years ago

In this half timbered house in Ladenburg lived three surgeons (Chirurgius) in the years from 1770 until after 1790. I love the symbol: a scalpel crossed with a forceps. FOWC with Fandango: Surgeon

The Wonders and Perils of Looking Up

That’s a house in the town centre of Bad Tölz. Like most houses here it is beautifully maintained. It has a cute little dormer, the windows are set-off by paintings and it has painted and raised stone panels running up the facade. Looking up reveals a painted, maybe even tiled border in the overhang of the roof. The difficulty in photographing a house like this is caused by the narrow streets which makes it difficult to get a shot of of the whole house. Furthermore, being in a group and not being able to really set up a shot results in cut off corners and weird angles. But here it is.
