A walk amongst the exotic

The Exotenwald in Weinheim (https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Exotenwald_Weinheim) is the local forest, just a few steps from the centre of town.  It was established in the middle of the 19th century and it has many exotic trees – not planted as single individuals but in large groups over hectares of woodland.  Since it is so close to town with unrestricted access it used to be my playground when I was little.  I still like to go for walks there – the following photos were all taken on a single afternoon this summer.

u sequoia

u mouse

Weihertalbrunnen

u mausoleum

This last photo is of the mausoleum in the corner of the park, just where the woodlands start.  It’s the grave of the family von Berckheim, Freiherr Christian F.B. von Berckheim started the arboretum.

This is for Cee’s Fun Foto Challenge: needs to have the letters O and U in the word.

A butterfly on flutterby

Another alphabet contribution to Cee’s Fun Foto Challenge:     https://ceenphotography.com/2018/01/02/cees-fun-foto-challenge-t-needs-to-have-two-ts-anywhere-in-the-word/

2 for 1: butterflies displayed in vignettes.    And as an added bonus: the German word for butterfly is Schmetterling – it also has 2 Ts.

Good enough to eat

s saffron
Saffron coloured tulip
s salmon
Salmon coloured dahlia
s sangria
Sangria coloured wine leaves
s sage
Sage coloured duckling
s strawberry
Strawberry coloured pants

Cee’s Fun Foto Challenge wants colours that start with the Letter S – I found all these colours named after foods: saffron, salmon, sangria, sage, and strawberry.  It was great practice for Tourmaline’s Color Your World Challenge which will start next week.

But in the meanwhile, more colours starting with S can be found here.

Clique – claque

I have used this clique before (although not quite these shots) but that’s fair enough as this sculpture is in fact, NOT unique.  I have taken these pictures in Schwetzingen but  another group of four claqueurs standing in a queue can be found in Pforzheim.  In Backnang there were only three – however, they have been stolen probably to melt the bronze and sell it wholesale.  The artist is Guido Messer, the title is “Die Claque“.  A claque is a group of men and women in an audience who are paid to clap – a custom which was popular first in France and later in other European countries.

You might have guessed – this is for Cee’s Fun Foto Challenge where the alphabet has reached the letter Q.
