On a Not So Clear Day
you can’t see forever and ever but still pretty far.
This is the view from the Tromm, one of the highest mountains / hills in the Odenwald towards the west. The Wachenburg, a fortress I normally look up to, can be seen in the middle and beyond is the Rhine Valley. On a clear day one can see the hills of the Palatinate in the distance on the other side of the river.

That’s the vista from the castle ruin in Königstein in Taunus. Frankfurt’s skyscrapers are about 20km away, and behind them in the distance are the hills of the Odenwald.
A place with a view
For me, it helps if there is a bit of an elevation and a view across the land – as is the case here, once again in the Odenwald: overlooking a valley to the next line of hills.

We can still walk if not in groups and the weather these past days has been glorious. So much so that it is starting to freak me out a little; almost too good to be true.
The title is from this song:

“Two souls, at least, reside within my breast!”
The (almost) accurate quote from Goethe’s Faust describes it best. There is this side of me, enamored by the rolling hills of the Odenwald,
and then there is the other side, that loves the excitement of the city of Frankfurt with its highrise buildings and modern side of living.
And this is the compromise, I guess. A view from one side of the Upper Rhine valley, where I live, all the way across to the hills of the Palatinate (Pfalz), with the twin cities of Mannheim and Ludwigshafen on either side of the Rhine in between. The distance from the Odenwald to the other side is about 50 kilometres at this point.
