NB: My bicycle is called Wynora Rider.
The skies are still blue but I have relented and I am wearing now long pants and shoes with socks. Summer doesn’t stay forever.

Since I’ve bought Wynora about three and a half years ago we’ve done well over 7000 km together. Our car feels rather neglected and I rarely use it around town. I drive with Wynora even in winter unless is raining hard or the roads are slick. We definitely have an everyday if somewhat mundane relationship.
There are bikes to rent at larger train stations. Uniform and boring and unloved. Deutsche Bahn wants passengers to use these bicycles instead of cluttering up trains with their own. But I have a wonderful bike, fitted to my needs and my size, I don’t want to ride a generic bike that has no e-assistance and is too large for me. And even if Deutsche Bahn makes it difficult with limited space in the wagons, with uneven levels between trains and platforms, with broken or non-existent elevators (and believe me it is hard work to haul a 23kg bike up a long flight of stairs), I want to ride MY bicycle. Oh my, this turned into a minor rant, I think (and don’t even get me started on people who rely on wheelchairs!).
This on the other hand is a bike that is loved. It’s stored on the balcony on the 9th floor of a dorm in Prague. The student obviously wants his bike close-by and safe even if it is a major schlep considering the small, old, creaky elevators in the building.
And this is the new bike autobahn between Frankfurt and Darmstadt (only completed in stages yet). Every 5 or so kilometres there is a bike station which provides shelter from the rain, air for flat tires and tools to do minor repairs. And the path itself is a wide lane exclusive for bicycles to entice more commuters to leave their cars at home. Wynora Rider, my trusted steed, approves wholeheartedly – and wishes there would be more such bike ways soon.
Wynona being my bicycle, of course. We have been together for 4444km and less than 2 years. This milestone was reached last week ironically at the same point were I fell and ended up with a light concussion. Which is, on second thought, not all that remarkable since I pass this spot at least 8 times each week on my way to school.

I treated myself to a pedelec a last year and in the first 12 months I clocked up almost exactly 2500 km. I set myself the challenge to equal that this year. But with being back at school and May being almost completely rained out, I wonder if I stand a chance to meet my challenge.
Here is a photo of Wynona Rider (that’s the name of the bike) in front of vineyard. If anybody is wondering, when the picture was taken – there is an unmistakable clue that it is 2021.
The Ragtag Daily Prompt: Challenge
“Being on the way” mostly meant being on my bike this year. As it is a bit difficult to photograph myself on the bike, so Wynona Rider (that’s the name of my bike) features mostly on her own.
Other bicycles are more communal. Especially those for hire which are becoming more and more common around here.
Although currently the weather is not conducive to biking, there are always a few intrepid cyclists.
I, on the other hand, rather agree with this one:
The best times are the breaks.
Friendly Friday: On the Way.
