The difference in texture between long feathers and fluffy downs is very noticeable on this juvenile (I think it’s a redstart) .

My worst “looking up” moment with birds came many years ago when I saw 15 louries in the trees in our garden and I looked up and kept looking up and didn’t see where I was going and I fell in the pool, scraping my thigh which left me with a bruise that took literally years to go away. But it hasn’t cured me from looking up.

I started with first photo (yes, that’s three crows – click to enlarge) and then I thought I have more photos with three birds in my files and then I just couldn’t stop myself! (There could have been more …)







I know that cormorants can be become pests if they are too numerous and fishers don’t like them because they can decimate fish numbers quite rapidly. This is a lonely cormorant though, which I have never seen in company – if it is the same one. These photos were taken a year apart.
